It's a symphony of microbial processes that break down a human body after death. Expression of heat shock proteins shows the decomposers experiencing stress. It also seems that fungi, not bacteria, may be breaking down our fat tissues. Read more in our latest pub: doi.org/10.1093/fems...

So happy to announce our new preprint, “A geothermal amoeba sets a new upper temperature limit for eukaryotes.” We cultured a novel amoeba from Lassen Volcanic NP (CA, USA) that divides at 63°C (145°F) 🔥 - a new record for euk growth!

Ever wondered how single-celled predators in soil boost plant health?
🧬 Protists don't just eat bacteria -they team up with them to shape the rhizosphere.
📈 Auxin isn't just a plant hormone -it's an interkingdom signal influencing microbial and protist life.

Diverse soil protists show auxin regulated growth in partnership with auxin-producing bacteria
Abstract. Predatory protists are single-cell eukaryotic organisms capable of hunting and ingesting bacteria and other microorganisms, which are thought to

Aiming to uncover mechanisms that enhance plant growth and soil health, @rsrp27.bsky.social of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will investigate how plants, protists and bacteria interact via signaling molecules to shape the rhizosphere.
