My latest painting in gouache of a street in Florence, Italy. From my own photo ref from when I was living there a few years ago

Study based on a photo by @davemylesphotos.bsky.social
Had to improvise on the face, scale was too small to do the original model justice.

Random kid sleeping on the train. I feel weird drawing random people from life, so I took a photo of this kid to draw at home, but maybe in the end that's just weirder... Gotta get more practice drawing regular people somehow though.

Lately I feel like I'm having to re-invent my process for every portrait, but maybe I'm just out of practice.

Ella Rubin in 'Until Dawn'. Ridiculous movie, but worth it for her

The sunlight casts soft beams that stretch across the room like quiet visitors. There’s a gentle warmth in the air, the kind that doesn’t ask anything of you. It just exists, golden and still.

Willem Dafoe in 'The Hunter' (2011).
Criminally underrated Dafoe feature.
Eyes are probably a bit too big.

My hybrid Hibiscus finally revealed its first flowers after two years, so I had to paint it.

"Birth of Chrysanthis", gouache on cotton, 23x31cm.

This was a long project, and felt like an important step for me. A lot of preparation went into it, certainly by my standards, but I enjoyed this more lengthy process.

My table at today's art fair in the local theater here in Gouda.
The most positive experience I've had of the three events I participated in this summer, lots of artists together in one space.

Still thinking about this movie

Rewatched 'The Great Beauty' (La Grande Bellezza) for I think the third time. It's so beautiful, if you haven't seen it please watch, and if you have, tell me all about it here, please.

Hibiscus Schizopetalus, gouache on paper, 18x26cm.

The reds are much deeper/darker irl but there was no way I was gonna get an accurate photo of this one.

This painting was conceived from reference photos taken in Gyllyngdune Gardens, Falmouth, back in 1997 whilst at Art College there. #falmouth #cornwall

I've included a photo of the model, Marie, from that day.

Don't really like this piece. It was supposed to be a quick sketch but I spent way too long on it and didn't get what I was going for.

My Mimosa Pudica in its new pot, soon as it's settled from the repotting I'll have to do some pruning too

This was the hardest pot I've made so far, and took three tries, but I'm finally happy with the result, even if the pot color was supposed to be a little brighter and the decoration a little darker. Now my Strawberry Grape finally has a nice ceramic home as it leafs out this year.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

Man, I love movies about food, always seems to be about softening hardened hearts through one of the most primal and human pleasures, good food.
'Pig' (2021) starring Nicolas Cage was fucking good and I can't believe I never heard about it till it appeared on my HBO homepage 1h28m ago

Late night hand practice for an upcoming piece. Fortunately I don't need to look far for reference as I've been blessed with quite feminine hands myself 😅
