When you’re in a reading slump, how do you decide what to read next? Do you go for a favorite author and/or genre, or do you try a new author and/or a genre that you don’t read as often? Does it help to switch up the format, e.g. ebook vs audio vs print? Are there any other “tricks” that help you?

Occasionally, I use assistive reader on Kindle Unlimited. The pronunciation can be a bit funky at times, which is to be expected, but I got a good chuckle (okay, maybe a few) at how the word “cum” apparently rhymes with “doom.”

StoryGraph update 2: I finally finished transferring all of my remaining books from Goodreads, and 268 books later, the mood chart is incredibly similar to the one from 2022. So, if nothing else, at least I’m consistent.

StoryGraph update 1: I finished transferring all of my books from 2022. The mood chart is fun but questionable, because I definitely read more than 2 sad books. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how the chart evolves. Will it change dramatically or basically stay the same?

I’m transferring my Goodreads data to StoryGraph and was struck by how much I read in previous years compared to this year and last. In April 2022, I read 11 books that month alone, whereas I’ve only read a total of 18 books since the beginning of 2025. Anxiety hasn’t been kind to my attention span.
