I am finding Neurodivergent Insights incredibly helpful as we try to understand both diagnosed and undiagnosed neurodiversity in our family.

Really good stuff. Much of it free. But the printable workbooks are also good.

Taking up @samwho.dev's suggestion and adding some of my own thoughts on parenting when you work in tech. My kids are a bit older, so the challenges are slightly different. But here's my off-the-cuff thoughts on what it's like these days.

Well, the Science Museum’s warehouse that's 15 minute's drive from where I live is FASCINATING.

Housing 300,000 items representing 90% of the Museum's collection (the other 10% is in exhibits).

Everything from the World's Fastest Milk Float, to Stephen Hawking's “voice”!

Oh the puns in my family.

My son and wife made a mixed-berry preserve today. As he's into coding video games I suggested this should be called:

"Game Jam"

After some thinking he decided this would be bad as it would taste of meat.

"Oh dear" I (accidentally!) replied.

I'm (manually) moving some side projects between VPS's.

Most of these are Laravel. Some are fairly major upgrades.

I'm reminded - having been away from it for a while - of just how nice it is to work with.

Great docs, amazing tooling, and such a good developer experience.

More please!!

Isn't it weird that it's someone's job (presumably part time?) to judge Ski Jumping? Or "Big Air" snowboarding.

Can't imagine many people qualify for that role.

I’ve spent my last few evenings doing some simple Laravel/PHP coding. Writing forms by hand. Making sure the validation works well.

It feels good to make progress. And I learned a few things.

It was very chill & satisfying. 10/10. Would recommend finding something you enjoy doing & doing it well.

As many of you know, alongside @larabelles.com, I’m also a horsey girl!

I’m building a tool to solve the yard-life problems I deal with, very much scratching my own itch.

It’s called YardKit. Early days, but it’s happening!

If horses are your world too, I’d love your support 🫶

This is just brilliant from @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social. It's five years old. But so much resonates with me RIGHT NOW

My book, Accessibility For Everyone, is now free and online as a website.

The book was first published by A Book Apart in 2017 but it holds up! It covers web accessibility for designers, developers, content folks, and really everyone who works in tech.

I should have given blood more than this. But proud to have got to 25 donations. And this is a nice recognition.

I know not everyone can do it, but giving blood in the UK is quick, easy, and literally life saving!

Apparently the NYT has a new 2-player word game. So just a note that I too have a 2-player word game that’s free, no download, no login, no tracking.

It won’t be as good as NYTs but it has all the benefits listed above.

You play by passing web links back and forth!

Discovered the handmade, privacy-aware, in-browser "delphitools" by @delphi.rmv.fyi today. Generators, converters, image tools. All happens in the browser. Really good.

I made a little private journal web app that's like a one-person social network called "YouSky”. It's free.

yousky.veryuseful.app

Has replies, hashtags, search. Works kinda like you expect. Basic, but does a job.

It's 100% private. No server, tracking, cookies. All data stored in your browser.

I've been leaning towards Tubi being the streaming service, and now I think it's official: they have Season 1 and Season 2 of one of the best science and technology comedy shows ever made… "Look Around You".

Thanks, Tubi. Thubi.

My kids are so much more excited about watching a movie on BluRay disc than streaming a movie.

CAN I PUT IT IN?

CAN WE WATCH THE EXTRAS?

WHAT DOES IT SAY ON THE BOX?

Wonderful.

I’m gonna shut up about LLMs and vibe coding now.

For all my skepticism of new AIs and my many objections, I like to think I’m curious and open minded.

The experiment is done. My thoughts are out of my head. Back to normal.

Despite being an AI doomer, I tried using a app-builder to make a simple, social-media-like, private, journalling web app.

This post explains it, including the development process I took, and the point at which I decided AI wasn't up to it and finished it myself. 🤷
