Sports editor. Worked at Chronicle, Sunday Sun, Manchester Evening News, ex-Shields Gazette and Sunderland Echo. Chairman of Whickham FC. Two dodgy news and even dodgier opinions

Gaining a few new pals on here so for those thinking about following, here's what you can expect:

- #NUFC news and bland opinions
- The odd woeful cricket take where I criticise a player just before he makes 270no
- NE non-league football insight from a super-stressed chairman

You lucky lot! 🤝
I cried in the first half, wept buckets at full time and again when I wrote this.

I saw grown men weeping in the Newcastle United end - I was one of them
The emotion was just too much for thousands of Newcastle United fans as we finally saw a cup final win at Wembley

Tough tough watch. Ponderous in possession, so many players off the boil.

At the other end, they look nervous and lacking structure/solidity. Liverpool will destroy this defence on this viewing

Going to struggle to create much down that left side - getting into great positions but then it stops and slows down as Livramento and Barnes come back inside

You can see why #NUFC are so desperate for a new keeper mind

Preferably one that doesn’t have wooden legs

That's a very good Liverpool side. There are areas of concern for #NUFC - Bruno and Gordon's form, injuries, Pope, goals conceded...

The Carabao Cup final will be won and lost in midfield though. Liverpool are so strong there. Newcastle need Joelinton back and Bruno on song.

He’s not edgy or cool but Brendan Rodgers is a helluva good football manager/coach

Is Jim Ratcliffe really Mike Ashley in disguise?

One thing that doesn’t bother me about Wembley trip is Trafalgar Square. Enjoy the occasion, yes, but a small-time ‘look at us on our day out’ mentality doesn’t sit right.

Turn up, win the game, THEN have a party.

I’ve been to Wembley 5 times with NUFC. It is utter shit when you lose

What a performance last night by #nufc.

Controlled aggression.
Spiky yet serene
Relentlessness rewarded

One of the great nights at a great stadium

End of a busy first week as head of sport for Chronicle and Gazette

I made a couple of mistakes and we got a few things right too. Regional sports media is tough right now but looking forward to next 6 months, developing the coverage - and hopefully with some success on pitch 🤞

Now…I need a drink!

The one-two between Scholes and Beckham 👌
No better way to mark Emile Heskey’s birthday than by reliving that incredible moment in Munich.

“EMILE HESKEY. COULD IT BE FIVE?”

I’m assuming Ange Postecoglou will be holding up his hands and saying the referee got his decision wrong tonight, given the absolute huff he was in on Saturday

Anybody fancy talking about that Jacob Murphy pass into Isak? #nufc

I mean, I like Ian Wright and Sir Les but calling them ‘2 of the best strikers ever’ is a stretch

⚠️ Obligatory personal news note

On Monday, I'll be starting a 6 month secondment as Head of Sport for the North East with Reach - working on the Chronicle and Gazette, covering #nufc #safc + #boro.

Looking forward to building on the good work already being done and implementing some new ideas 👍

I’ve already gone on record to say that Kieran Trippier is the best right back I’ve seen at Newcastle.

The way Lewis Hall is going, I may have to review my left back choice too…!

Unreal first 30 minutes for United - absolutely smashed their opponents. Outstanding performance and win - should have been even more.

What a way to end the year for #nufc 👏👏👏

Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes suspended for Monday.

Tonali, Guimaraes and Joelinton bang in form too. Big opportunity to get an Old Trafford win

That’s not a red card. Dear me.

Bonkers

Man City have relied so much on Rodri, KDB, Foden and Haaland the last 12 months.

Rodri - cattled
KDB - done
Foden - out of form
Haaland - needs the other 3

This City collapse is mad. Pep looks clueless as to how to change it as well
