Brilliant! I really liked Chris Wickham’s ‘Medieval Europe’, which is more focused on the early medieval period. This seems like a good complement.

The Cornelius Johnson portraits were a lot of fun to show to my son who is also growing up in London with two Dutch parents.

He was moderately impressed.

@peterpaulrubens.bsky.social - are you somehow involved with the Frieze Masters exhibition in London? Works by Cornelius Johnson and Pieter Brueghel the Younger you showed here were on prominent display there.
