One of my best friends showed a jokey image she Ai generated and saw that I didn't laugh, and her reaction was to make ME pass as a party pooper.
Even our friends, who are supposed to know why we're not okay with this shit don't really listen to us and it fucking hurts.

Unsolicited tip for artists in this new year : please stop drawing top models *all* the time. It's lazy and uninteresting (sorry). Be curious of how everyday-people actually look like. There's beauty in them, and your art will be better for it I promise.

1/ he's the only artist genAI advocates seem to know

2/ they don't know he was misogynistic asshole. Quoting someone as problematic as he was doesn't help their case.

I've worked on a gig where the writers created moodboards to convey their vision to artists. Some of the references were AI generated. They were *all* terrible and useless, and gave me 0 inspiration. I ignored them all, hoping my work wouldn't be influenced by slop.

That last paragraph is very icky. They forced their employees to use a tech they weren't comfortable with using (and apparently still aren't, but are afraid to lose their job, that's why they're "more or less okay with it"). GenAi is built on theft. There's no ethical use of it. Period.

Private commissioners I love you, but please understand the work that goes into creating an artwork. If you have less than a 100 $ to spend on art (which is already fantastic and I'm grateful for your support!), don't expect anything more than a sketch. If you want a fully rendered illustration, with characters, background, lighting and everything, this takes several days of work, and will consequently cost several hundreds of $ for the pay to be considered decent. I'm a bit tired of being ghosted after several exchanges by clients who realize that yes, the full art they want will cost more than 50 bucks. Please adjust your expectations to what you're comfortable with paying.
