The protective sleeves for my mico prints arrived today. Very pleased with them.

I'll be having a stall at States of Independence on March 28th. So, if you're near Leicester then, do come along to DMU and browse my books and prints. (Other stalls are available.)

More abstract tomfoolery.

What to to with the offcuts of the offcuts of paper and of vinyl / lino? And what to do with that last little bit of ink left rolled out after printing something else... I'm calling this one 'The Moon is Born'.

I'm not one to invoke Magna Carta. (Did she die in vain?) But pondering the ramifications of the US Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, I was hit by a sense of how revolutionary that 1215 document actually was in declaring kings subject to law.

For what it’s worth I don’t use a gmail account and won’t be randomly contacting new authors enthusing about their books and giving them dodgy links to click on. There’s a new wave of author impersonation going round apparently.

One from my walk today.

I'm still waiting for Bob Dylan to present me with his Nobel Prize for Literature medal. (I will, of course, magnanimously refuse to accept it...)

This year I want to make meaningful connections through making things. (This feels to me like a small act of resistance.) Last night I had the opportunity to give miniature artworks to three different creative people. People I admire. It felt good.

In the old days, you'd need a grand vizier or high ranking courtier to whisper corrupt and misleading advice into your ear. Only the wealthy could afford that. But now, through the power of AI, everyone can be ill-advised.

Today I feel more than usually intolerant of AI slop. Who would have thought the dial-up modem would come to be a symbol of the golden age of the Internet. Hell, I'd swap this for the days of the acoustic coupler.

This from 2 years ago. I was only 3 months into my post Covid fatigue. For a time, playing with charcoal and scrap paper was all l could do. I remain a very poor draftsperson. But the practice continues to give me so much pleasure and discovery.

After some months if research and pondering, I started writing something today that might become the opening of a new novel. Tentatively. Speculatively. As ever, what emerged was a complete surprise to me. It really is an alchemical process.

Last night's accidentally interesting photo. Taken from my front door, looking out at the suburban street. Not truly ICM photography. It was not intentional. But I do like it.

Following a very random ADHD conversation just now, I have an overwhelming desire to listen to a reading of TLOTR in which every instance of the word 'ring' is replaced deadpan with the word 'carrot'.

Nine carrots were gifted to the race of men... etc.

Illogicality (the willingness to welcome and entertain illogical impulse) lies at the heart of my creative practice. I've slowly learned that following such whims with joy and determination often leads to discoveries I couldn't have arrived at in any any other way.

That's another post written and then deleted (without posting) after reflection. I'm doing well.

I thoroughly approve of taxation to support public services. But working through accounts (in order to determine how much I need to pay) is torture for this ADHD /Dyslexic novelist.

For the avoidance of doubt... I hope for and work towards (in my very limited capacity) a rules-based international order.

Pottery Throwdown is back and I am SO happy. I love everything about the show (except for people having to leave). Creativity, diversity, solidarity, excellence. What a lovely group of potters. Thank you Channel 4.
