Guilty as charged!

Sometime in the late ‘90s Wonka magically produced shockingly intense Neon Nerds candy. Apparently still available in some parts of the world, but no longer in the US.

Wills’s Gold Flake cigarettes featured collectible cards in the late 1930s. Not just ads, the cards were a form of patriotic education for the public.

This one, from the 1937 series 'Irish Industries,' captures a futuristic moment: Ireland’s burgeoning neon sign industry.

How do we get colors in neon? It's a combination of gases like neon and argon, colored glass, and special phosphors.

Similar to fluorescent minerals, these phosphors are excited by UV light inside the tube, which makes them glow with color.

Released this week 66 years ago, Miles Davis's masterpiece album, Kind of Blue, was recorded in just two sessions in 1959. This 25mm argon-filled piece is a tribute to that cornerstone of jazz. (Look closely at center. 🔍)
