An engineer at heart | works in data and AI | enjoys spending time under water
When I hear discussions on the anthropomorphisation of AI, I'm reminded of how distraught my other half was when the IT department killed her Mopy fish (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOPy_fish).

Our oven door is no longer in a relationship with the hinges. A disappointing end to the day...

Always fun to have the Red Arrows fly over our house on their way home.

I haven't visited the other place in months and I've just deleted the app from my phone. It felt good.

Today I finally retired my trusty desktop PC, an aging Dell Studio XPS. It had a failing power supply, the on/off switch stopped answering to anyone long ago (replaced by 'the big red button') and the fans would go mad at the slighest provocation. But after 16 years, I don't think it owes me much!

Just saw a news notification on my phone saying "Erling's here to stay". I misread it as 'Erlang' and briefly wondered why Sky News are suddenly interested in niche programming languages. They're not. It's football. Of course.

Geoff Hinton has said there's a 10 to 20% chance that AI will lead to human extinction within the next 3 decades. Seriously, where are these numbers coming from?

I never posted in the old place - I was always in listening mode. But the interesting voices went away and the noise levels went up. This feels like I've transported back to a better time.
