It's weird that so many Americans don't seem to realise just how much Trump's imperialistic bluster and threats are drastically weakening the USA, both economically and militarily.

Russia wouldn't dream of attacking Greenland BECAUSE it is a member of NATO. The US already has bases and installations on Greenland to deter any potential Russian attack. The level of Trump's fuckwittedness is off the scale.

For the first time in history, the state of Virginia has a female Governor and right after being sworn in today Governor Abigail Spanberger’s first official act was to end cooperation between ICE-Gestapo and Virginia State Police. More of this. 💙👊👏

Nope! And neither has he any understanding of the law. There has NEVER been a law (international or otherwise) that says national sovereignty can be ignored if it happens not to be able to defend itself from an aggressor. The very idea is utterly absurd.

Perfect description of the fawning pipsqueak. No doubt he would have offered exactly the same advice about Hitler.

"Give me Greenland or I'll whack up taxes on US businesses and US consumers". Takes a special kind of genius.

Read what I ACTUALLY said. My very first sentence says this was what we expected. Both before and after the election I posted copiously about Project 2025 and Christian Nationalism. My point is about the speed and brutality of the violence. NEVER once have I said this wouldn't happen, FFS!

But that's precisely my point. The institutions one might have expected to resist such a rapid and brutal use of violence and anti-Constitutional measures have failed miserably to resist.

I guess international law and respect for national sovereignty might be an interesting topic for conversation.

Indeed! I think a number of those Republican politicians refused to vote to impeach because they believed Trump was a busted flush after J6, and they didn't want to hand the Democrats a victory. They got that so badly wrong.

"Give me Greenland or I will put increased taxes on US businesses and US consumers", probably isn't as persuasive as Trump thinks it is.
January 17, 2026 at 6:53 PM
When you say "the brutality has been less than many openly feared" I just disagree. There is little point arguing about who got their predictions right. The reality is Trump is violently assaulting American people, and everything possible needs to be done to resist his destruction of US democracy.
