Helmets from Nigeria, Greece and Benin failed the impact test. This means in a crash these helmets will not absorb the crash forces and instead your skull and brain will have to absorb the forces, risking a skull or brain injury

September 12, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Helmets from India, Kenya, and Ethiopia did not even have a strap and buckle to be tested in rolloff or retention system strength tests. This means in a crash, these helmets will not stay on your head.

Helmets from Mexico, Vietnam, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire were ejected during the rolloff test. This means in a crash, these helmets will not stay on your head, risking a skull or brain injury.

In the run-up to the #APRSC2025, we went out with some NGOs to talk to riders and vendors about helmet safety. Helmets that meet safety standards should be available in the first place.

At the Ministerial Conference, NGOs brought helmets from local shops to demonstrate to decision-makers what riders are actually using. They came straight from the streets. We selected some of them for independent lab testing with support from @FIAFdn. Lab results are on their way

Every helmet tells a story. We asked NGOs to collect helmets from local markets, the same ones riders wear every day. They brought them to the Ministerial Conference early this year. We took 11 of these helmets for testing to see how safe they were. Stay tuned for the results.
