Who is Carl Schmitt, the authoritarian political theorist that the New Right and the Neocons are obsessed with?
before being the obsession of peter thiel and every favourite podcaster of your incel cousin, schmitt was the jurist who came up with the theoretical legal foundation for the nazi party's power grab and subsequent atrocities. he wrote: "sovereign is he who decides on the exception." he believed that constitutional democracies were facades for the total power of the execu- tive, since the legislative was powerless during exceptional times. schmitt also wrote about the friend-enemy distinction, which he saw as the basis of the politic. people are sorted into groups, either with you or against you, in a struggle for survival. big incel vibes, I know. in his view, liberalism challenged that "natural order" by restricting the power of the executive and by easing the distinctions with enemy groups, which he thought led to social paralysis and racial decay.

What is "plenary authority" and why is it a big deal that Miller said that Trump has it over the national guard?

A few hours ago, speaking on cnn about Trump's plan to send the national guard into us cities, Miller said : under title 10 of the us code, the president has plenary authority, has... He then fully stopped talking and just blinked at the camera, as if he realized that he said the quiet part out loud. "Plenary authority" means "complete power over a particular area with no limitayions". It is equivalent to ruling by decree, which us how Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler governed. Having "plenary authority" over the military would mean that Trump can just use the national guard as he pleases, no matter what the courts say. It's a power grab.

4 frame comic. someone off-frame with a mic is interviewing passersby. they ask a man in a suit and sunglasses : sir! do you think the left's strategy to call everyone they disagree with "nazis" is helpful in any way? well I don't think american conservatism or trumpism are the same as nazism. they have similarities, but I think maga has fresh horrors in store that we can't yet comprehend. it's not nazism, but it's their own brand of never- seen-before, polyester- clad, ai-generated slop fascism. I think the most similar thing between "maga" and "nazi" is that there will come a day when they will evoke an equal sentiment of disgust in society.
