A burst of snow is possible early/mid afternoon today along the I-20 corridor in Alabama. Given surface and air temperatures, it will not take much for slippery spots to form. The duration will be short, but it won't take much to create travel disruptions.

A classic southern snow storm is setting up for Tuesday. Much of Alabama will see at least a wintry mix, as far south as the Gulf coast. The heaviest snow band will be across central Alabama, probably south of I- 20. It will be a dry fluffy snow for Birmingham with accumulation 1-3" likely.

The gfs north trend has continued with every run today.

Like I said a couple of days ago. These model runs with the deep south look is possible, but in this range, a northwest trend is likely. Monday and Tuesday there will likely be snow, and I do think central Alabama will see some.

The depth and longevity of cold coming to the south is nearly locked in the forecast. We will stay below freezing from Sunday evening til midday Wednesday. Wind chills will be near 0° Monday morning. Low temps will be in the teens. Wintry precip still possibility for central Alabama Tuesday.

I am seeing alot of maps showing snow and sleet chances are higher in south Alabama. Given the pattern, seems reasonable, but given how far out, a creep to the north is likely.

Today long-range 4cast models are agreeing that a sustained, severe cold pattern will be setting up for the eastern half of the US. It's impossible to accurately forecast any specifics beyond this weekend, just know that pattern will likely bear very cold weather with a chance of wintry precip.
