dannyderaney47 years ago, dozens of turkeys met their unfortunate demise in a Cincinnati parking lot. Oddly enough, this episode aired a month before Thanksgiving in 1978. This is based off real events from the creator of the show, Hugh Wilson who was working at a station in Dallas. The general manager of that station, who Arthur Carlson is based off of, thought of the promotion. But instead of a helicopter, it was the back of the truck. And at the end of the promotion, the GM came up with the famous line, "I didn’t know turkeys couldn't fly." The public ended up fighting over the turkeys and it became a nightmare. CNBC: My understanding is the White House said that China was gonna buy 12 million tons of soybeans from the US by January. That's approaching and they've only purchased 332,000. China has not confirmed that pledge.
