I think Stashower undercuts his own book by not backing the assertions that there *was* a pre-Inauguration plot against Lincoln until the very end. But it's a good reconstruction of Lincoln's trip and Alan Pinkerton's desperate search for the plotters.

Finally had the group over back on Dec 28. I'd just gotten Terraforming Mars, and we tried it out (with some help from the one person who'd played it before). Followed up with two rounds of Braggart. Everyone really liked both. #boardgames

Going to be into the ACW for a bit. Started off by re-reading the first volume of Bruce Catton's excellent Centennial History. It actually *ends* with First Bull Run, with the bulk of book dealing with the previous year. #ACW #history
