It’s not the ‘correct’ language, it’s not the ‘technical’ word, it’s cruel. It’s cruel to those whose loved ones have been taken away due to choosing an assisted death because of a terminal diagnosis. Thank you to these peers for standing up for what’s right.

It’s unbelievable that this is being allowed to happen and these seven lords are not facing any kind of retribution. The only people who will face the consequences are the terminally ill and that is utterly horrific.

We also expect kindness and respect for those deeply affected by this topic. The use of the word suicide is incorrect, cruel and deeply upsetting to many.

This is about shortening death not shortening life. The choice has been taken away from terminally ill people and they are asking for kindness and compassion.

There is a lot of cruel language being said by some lords atm. It’s incredibly upsetting. That is not how I want Mum to be remembered. She loved life and would have remained living it happily if she had not been diagnosed with MND. She took the dignity she could when the disease took it away.

Today was one of the hardest debates to listen to in the House of Lords as they discussed an amendment to change the word dying to suicide.

My Mum was dying, she did not want to die. Terminally ill people are dying, they do want to die. The use of the word suicide is cruel and wrong.

A reminder of who this bill is for.

It is only for those with a terminal diagnosis of six months or less to live and who have the mental capacity to make a clear and settled choice. The lords must remember this and keep it in mind during these discussions.
