The Trump regime is using the tools of democracy to bury it.They talk of free speech, peaceful protest, fair elections, the rule of law, the constitution, as they systematically destroy them. It's a common tactic of fascists, but too few realise it's happening before their eyes.

The notion that Britain is broken & that a lurch to the populist right can fix it, neglects a harsh truth - things can always get worse. Brexit is the classic example.

Whatever people may think of the Assisted Dying Bill, it is important to understand that the Lords do not have the legal powers to stop it. Under the Parliament Act of 1949, the Lords can of course suggest changes, but they have no authority to over-ride the will of elected MPs, nor should they.
