Lede in NYT story today: President Trump has been dining with billionaires and has taken a keen interest in crises overseas, leading to fears that he is drifting away from his more populist stances.

Drifting away? Hey NYT, how ‘bout considering the possibility that those stances were all bullshit?

NYT headline tonight: The Shutdown Is Ending. When Will Things Get Back to Normal?

Hahaha, NYT, do you really think there will ever be anything that resembles normalcy in the government during this administration? So, in answer to the question, the earliest possible date is late January 2029.

CNBC headline: White House says October jobs and inflation data may never be released because of the shutdown

So, the numbers were that horrible, huh?
November 12, 2025 at 9:12 PM
So, let me get straight what happened here. The POTUS imposed more and more painful conditions (including starvation) upon the American people (while he played golf and hosted a Gatsbyesque party) so that enough Dem senators would relent to allow him to impose another painful condition. Huh.

So, in other words, let’s go back to the pre-ACA days, which we all remember was just the best. Unrelated, I will go to the golf course today, where between the 5th green and 6th tee, I will end my seventy-first war. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Hey kids the Trump Healthcare
Plan just dropped!

Hey Jersey Mike, you listening?
If sandwich shops don’t start offering a sandwich named “the acquittal” then what are we even doing

Gonna go out on a limb and say tonight’s election results are even more impressive and exciting than the No Kings rallies a few weeks ago. Perhaps the country and its democracy are not done for.
November 5, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Hey GOP congressmen from swing districts, you might want to consider walking, if not running, away from Trump starting tomorrow or even tonight.

The biggest question of the night now in NJ is whether Jack Ciattarelli will run again in ‘29? — for the 4th time!

So, once again I find myself trying to reason with election season😬.

(Shamefully, I borrowed from Jimmy Buffett’s rhyme ‘bout hurricane season.)

That new (this is from January 2019) Dem rep from the Boulder region mentioned here is, of course, Joe Neguse, who has proved to be a terrific rep. As evidenced here, he’s very, very good at this. Would love to see him on a national ticket, sooner rather than later.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t think this unitary executive theory thing is working out.

Trump saying the physical structure of the White House wouldn’t be interfered with and then having a portion of the East Wing knocked down is completely reminiscent of his promise to the Met not to destroy the Art Deco friezes of the Bonwit Teller building.

CNBC headline” ‘No Kings' protests against Trump bring a street party vibe to cities nationwide

But I was told they would be attended by violent Hamas/Antifa terrorists. But instead, street parties? Huh.

Savannah, blue Georgia!

I’m confident that if Sasha were not a fictional character, not only would she be attending a No Kings protest rally tomorrow but she’d be an organizer of that rally.

Hey, New Jersey, please make this Saturday not only No Kings Day but also No MAGA Governor Day!
October 16, 2025 at 1:49 PM
Bit of good news re NJ guv race. I hope Mikey goes to a number of No Kings events on Saturday and gives some aggressive, rabble-rousing speeches (she can do it!). No Kings, no MAGA governors!

At the No Kings rallies this Saturday, I fully expect that not only will Frog show up but Toad will as well!
October 13, 2025 at 11:31 PM
This is an excellent piece, but as is often the case with the NYT, the headline is awful. The piece is not so much about how Trump and Miller are not afraid of a civil war as much as it’s about how they’re doing everything they can to provoke one.

This book review makes it clear the US dodged a fascist bullet in the 1930s, and NYC, with its eastern and southern European immigrants a big part, led the fight. Perhaps Mandami’s NYC can do the same for us now.

Abe Ribicoff angrily to the ‘68 Dem convention: “And with George McGovern as President of the United States we wouldn't have to have Gestapo tactics in the streets of Chicago!"

Simply replace George McGovern with the Dem of your choice, and this statement would be perfectly applicable to today!!
October 4, 2025 at 12:29 PM
Abe Ribicoff is, of course, no longer with us, and there isn’t a major political event going on, but someone needs to get up on a big stage somewhere, perhaps the well of the Senate, and angrily (the angrier the better) decry the Gestapo tactics in the streets of Chicago!!

“Affluence and courage have become negatively correlated; the wealthy have too much to lose.”

I believe the statement above likely also applies to the lawyers in the law firms who folded to Trump’s bullying. Too much wealth; too much to lose.
