It's so great to see this package (on CRAN since 2021) finally formally described in a journal! Here's to many more years of standardized, customizable, and reproducible geology data visualization!

And shout out to @richardstockey.bsky.social and @lewisajones.bsky.social for years of encouragement!

Heard from a former (undergrad) student who just defended her PhD. Students: tell your old profs about your successes and achievements. It's not bragging, and we love to hear about it. It's one of the best parts of being an educator.

The SCION Earth Evolution Model is turning 4 years old this spring. We have celebrated by extending the framework back to ~1 Ga before present

We find some agreement with broad environmental trends from the rock record, but there is still plenty to learn!

Over its multimillion-year history, multiple planetary cooling mechanisms working together were required to push Earth into 'icehouse' conditions and to form ice caps.

A very pointless & unproductive thing I did is analyze electoral durations of U.S. House Representatives. Two superficial similarities to Phanerozoic taxon durations jump out: (1) declining turnover rates through time & (2) the election of 1932 was basically the P-Tr mass extinction for Republicans.

In Nature Geoscience today, we use our community-driven consortium science approach to reconstruct a Neoproterozoic oxygenation event that may have played a role in the Cambrian radiation of marine animals but didn’t oxygenate the deep oceans www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Oxygen in shallow shelf waters rose linearly with atmospheric oxygen in the Neoproterozoic era, potentially driving the first radiation of marine animals, but widespread ocean oxygenation came later, ...
