Unfortunately, antique crossings and signals do not meet contemporary safety standards. So this month SR 202 in North Bend, WA is receiving new precast concrete tubs and welded rail. Next month it gets new constant warning time signals. Safety first, even on a century-old railway!

The James J. Hill house is an imposing structure the Empire Builder himself lived in until his passing. Today, it is owned by the Minnesota Historical Society and is open throughout the year.

Late in posting but no less honored to be included in the 100th birthday celebration for the McCloud 25 at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad in September. McCloud 25 was built by Baldwin in 1925.

Searching for hidden fiber lines - vacuum excavation to find the actual location of alleged transcontinental fiber optic cables in North Bend. This is a job that literally sucks! A new foundation is planned and avoiding utility conflicts is essential.

The NPR 924 is out for its first operation of the season! Fresh from its annual inspection and hydro test, it will pull Mothers Day excursion trains at the Northwest Railway Museum in Snoqualmie. Rogers built the 924 in 1899 making it one of the oldest steam locomotives still in regular operation.

I am more of a history guy that a tech guy but I do marvel at modern aircraft. The Blue Angels usually make an annual visit to Seattle's summer Seafair, and I certainly hope this continues.
