2024 was a disappointing year for Butterflies on our rewilding holding. These shots are from 2023 when the Brambles and Thistles were all a'flutter with insects of many kinds. I hope that 2025 will be better but fear that it will take years for the populations to build back.

I am a great enthusiast for the art and practice of coppicing. This little video shows the late Ernest Steel splitting Hazel rods for hurdle making. Anyone who has ever tried this will appreciate the sheer poetry of Ern's skill and style. #coppice #coppicing #cleaving #splitting #hurdlemaking
