Very excited to be contributing a chapter (titled ‘Collecting Culture: Árni Magnússon’s Latin Liturgical Manuscript Fragments’) to this volume!
🔈🔔 I’m very happy to announce the contract is signed for ‘Medieval Fragmentology: Provenance, Contexts and Interdisciplinarity’. This edited volume will bring together a great range of exciting research into MSS, textiles, architecture…

I can’t wait to get started!

Missing my first Evensong in six years with my chapel choir today. I’m really unwell but it’s still devastating.

I was delighted to teach a third year seminar this week. We discussed movement of books and book culture, new research (such as finds at St Catherine’s Sinai and biocodicology) and heard excellent presentations from three students on the Augustine Gospels, the Codex Grandior and the Vercelli Book.

Happy Þorláksmessa!

I enjoyed working on the Icelandic fragments of the medieval office of St Þorlákr this year, including AM 241 b III α fol and AM 241 b III β fol!

The fragments are digitised: handrit.is/manuscript/v...

This was the first manuscript I ever handled, on work experience at the Parker Library when I was 16!

Working on a scribal profile today to discuss identifying hands working across Latin and Old Norse!

Weirdly I always find keeping my hands busy helps when I’m doing focused palaeography…

While I sadly couldn’t make Trinity Hall’s 675th Birthday celebrations at the Barbican last night due to teaching commitments, it was lovely to be asked to create a poster to explain a bit of my doctoral research to alumni, staff and students!

As someone who works on medieval Icelandic liturgy, and who sings Evensong regularly in my colleges chapel choir, I was very excited to see some familiar texts in BL Add. 4895 today!

I had the best time examining some liturgical fragments in Kansalliskirjasto on Wednesday, ahead of the colloquium ‘Books, Music and the Liturgical Life of the Medieval Church’. After a fascinating day of papers yesterday, I’m excited to give my own today.

The year is 2025. I’m doing a PhD researching medieval manuscripts, Dan and Phil are dating and I’m seeing MCR play all of the Black Parade in the summer. This was my dream timeline at 13…

Can’t help but think I’d find #KingAndConqueror much more enjoyable if I didn’t work on medieval history…

I'm looking forward to returning to Reykjavík to present my paper at the 31st Congress of Nordic Historians on Wednesday. I am very grateful to the AHRC’s Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership for funding my attendance!

Really enjoyed presenting my paper at @imc-leeds.bsky.social this morning in Session 1121: ‘Medieval Fragments II: Theological/ Liturgical Manuscripts + Incunabula’. Thank you @manuelmunoz.bsky.social for organising such an exciting and insightful set of four sessions! So many ideas to think about…

Quick update: I passed my registration viva last Thursday, and am now officially a PhD Candidate!

There’s a lot more work to do over the next few years but I’m excited to have reached this milestone in my research career.

I'm looking forward to presenting my research on the máldagabækur and the use of the breviary in the medieval Icelandic parish church at the 16th Bergen International Symposium in Old Norse Studies this coming week! This paper is based on a chapter of my PhD thesis.

Looking forward to presenting a paper on the máldagar (Icelandic church inventory charters). I will be exploring what they can tell us about liturgical books and devotional practices in the parish church at the 31st Congress of Nordic Historians in Reykjavík this August!

Spending this morning transcribing a fragment of a 12th century Icelandic lectionary. It’s somehow easier than my task yesterday (checking one name in a litany in Cotton Vitellius A VII in the British Library) though I think the cotton fire had a lot to do with that!
