yall know how the late roman empire was a feedback loop of conceding to the armed forces (often because if you don't they'll just usurp you) until there was nothing left to concede
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

everytime i see the (rightful) annoyance at americans being called americans when "america" encompasses the whole continent i think about whether we should bring back the name "columbia" for the usa. it'd still be mildly confusing (with colombia) but it's a nice name imo...
