By the time the wealthiest Americans get their first paycheck this year, they'll have finished paying into Social Security until 2027. It's time for Congress to #ScrapTheCap and make sure everyone pays their fair share!

With a new year comes new questions, but we have one remaining from 2026: What are we supposed to do when long term care facilities shut down due to Medicaid cuts?
January 6, 2026 at 6:03 PM
💪 One concrete resolution for 2026 is keeping Social Security field offices open and making sure they are fully staffed. Help us make it a reality by telling Congress to intervene at the link in the comments!

The wealthiest Americans have already stopped paying into Social Security for the rest of the year. We're still in single-digit days of January.

This isn't right. It's past time for Congress to #ScrapTheCap!

🚨 A new report finds that average phone wait times at the SSA are longer than what the agency has reported. Congress needs to intervene and demand the FULL STAFFING retirees need and deserve!

The #BigUglyBill will hurt millions of Americans by reducing funding for essential services like Medicaid and forcing hospitals and care facilities to shut down.

We can't let this happen. Sign our petition and tell Congress to restore funding NOW: https://ow.ly/9wgt50XNnzA
Repeal GOP Tax Cuts that Hurt American Workers and Retirees
Republicans say the tax law they passed this summer will help average Americans, but that's not true. It will actually slash billions of dollars from Medicare, Medicaid and food assistance to fund more than $4 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy. This isn't right. Lawmakers must stand with working Americans and retirees. Demand your member of Congress repeal the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" by signing our petition.

From EPI: Believe it or not, many high-income Americans will actually *benefit* if we #ScrapTheCap on Social Security taxes and make the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share!

Learn more: https://www.epi.org/blog/should-high-earners-support-scrapping-social-securitys-cap-on-taxable-earnings/
Should high earners support scrapping Social Security’s cap on taxable earnings?
Earnings above a cap aren’t subject to the payroll taxes that fund Social Security. As a result, billionaires pay the same tax as someone earning $176,100 in 2025 (the cap is indexed to the average wage, so it changes every year). “Scrapping the cap” is a popular and effective way to address Social Security’s funding…

CONGRESS: Make the Wealthy Pay Their Fair Share
The average monthly Social Security benefit for a retired worker is $1,980. Meanwhile, millionaires and billionaires are paying a smaller portion of their income into Social Security than working Americans. That’s wrong and unfair. Tell your lawmakers to strengthen Social Security and make wealthy Americans pay their fair share.

🚨 The Administration wants to cut in-person visits to Social Security field offices in HALF in 2026. Wait lines are already too long!🚨

This is one New Years Resolution we can't move ahead without. Sign our petition now and tell Congress to keep offices OPEN: https://ow.ly/gyMi50XQ7lC
Tell Your Representative to Vote YES to Keep Field Offices Open
The Social Security Administration is struggling in the wake of DOGE cutting 15 percent of the Social Security workforce.   This week the Washington Post reported that the agency is unable to handle the number of customer service phone calls to its 1-800 number and is temporarily pulling about 1,000 employees from field offices to answer the phones instead. Rep. Larson has introduced a bill that would ensure that field offices stay open despite the chaos. Please send a message to your representative to demand they vote YES on the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act (H.R. 1876).

🚨 Reminder: SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano told the Senate that anyone who wanted to visit SSA field offices in-person could do so , but the Administration now wants to cut visits in HALF.

This is a gut punch for seniors, and Congress must act NOW.

By this time next week, the wealthiest Americans will have already stopped paying Social Security taxes for the entire year. Not for 2025, but 2026. This is unacceptable.
