#RE has faced decades of neglect, leading to an ongoing shortage of trained teachers and a postcode lottery of provision.

Including RE in the national curriculum is now an opportunity to end this.

A quarter of a million students take a GCSE in RS.

Despite this, half of those delivering the lessons mainly teach another subject.

Discussing the big questions in life is a vital part of young people’s education.

GCSE RS remains one of the most widely taken subjects at KS4.

249,422 students took a GCSE RS this year.

We urgently need more specialist RE teachers to ensure every child gets access to high-quality RE.

RS A-level entries have dipped slightly (1.3%). With an ongoing shortage of subject specialists, @natre-update.bsky.social and the RE Council are warning that more and more young people who want to take the subject at A-Level are unable to.
