I’m saddened to learn of the passing of my colleague and friend, Representative Doug LaMalfa. He was a loving father and husband, and a dedicated public servant. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

5 years ago, a violent mob incited by the actions & rhetoric of Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. This blatant attack against our Democracy left a solemn mark on our nation’s history & calls us to recommit to protecting free & fair elections.

Trump’s military actions against Venezuela last night were unconstitutional. Period. This was reckless and risked American lives with no plan for the aftermath.

Today marks the beginning of a new year. Let us uplift one another, stand together, move forward with hope, and make this year better than the last.

It has been one year since the horrific attack on Bourbon Street. We will never forget the innocent lives lost or the deep pain inflicted on our city. We will also never forget the bravery of the first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to prevent further loss of life.

Congratulations to my dear friend Dottie Reese on being chosen as the 67th #SugarBowl President! She’s the second woman to ever hold this position and is an incredible business owner and leader.

We’re just one day away from the expiration of #ACA tax credits, a lifeline for thousands of families and small business owners. It didn’t have to be this way.

As we honor the principles of Kwanzaa, let us reflect on the strength of family, community, and shared values that guide us forward. Happy Kwanzaa to all in #LA02!

Merry Christmas #LA02! As we celebrate Christmas, we are reminded of the strength found in our diversity. To those of all faiths, and to those who find meaning in the secular beauty of the season—may you find rest and joy. Let us enter the New Year committed to lifting one another up.

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was an attack on the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans & 15 years ago, we repealed it. Today we continue the fight to ensure that no one is discriminated against. No one should have to hide who they are or who they love, including our servicemembers who sacrificed for our country.

This is bigger than a name.
It is about respecting the separation of powers and the rule of law.

America’s institutions are not personal branding opportunities.
They belong to the people.

It’s unfortunate that the House is being sent home yet again rather than voting on a solution to massive health insurance premium increases, which a majority of the House has endorsed.

I wonder if it’s a coincidence that the Epstein files are supposed to be delivered to the House tomorrow? 🤔

This is a historic moment in the fight to protect Americans’ health care. Rep. Jeffries’ discharge petition to force a vote on a clean 3 year extension of the #ACA tax credits has secured enough signatures.

Michael Ward was an outstanding musician, a loving husband and father, and my dear friend. He was a gifted violinist who helped shape the culture and soul of New Orleans.

Today, we celebrate the Bill of Rights, which guarantees many of our most fundamental freedoms as Americans. Now more than ever, when core values like freedom of speech are under attack, we must uphold these principles and work together to protect the rights that define our democracy.

What we witnessed in Australia today was horrific—an act of hate that must be condemned. Antisemitism is real, growing, and has no place in Louisiana, America, or anywhere in the world.

As we light the Hanukkah menorah, we do so with resolve. Even in dark moments, light endures.

I am heartbroken to hear of the shooting at Brown University. No one should lose their loved one in such a horrific way in the place they are supposed to learn and grow. My prayers are with Providence and the entire Brown University community.

Marijuana prohibition has failed our communities. It has disproportionately harmed people of color — fueling mass incarceration, tearing families apart, stripping away opportunities, and burdening people with lifelong criminal records.

Congratulations to Edna Karr High School and St. Augustine High School on making it to the #LHSAA Division I Championships. Both teams are powerhouses in my district in academics and athletics!
