Having completed our run through of the previous 9 Mary Mulvihill Award Winners, we turn our attention to this year's rapidly approach award.

Although, I suppose how quickly it is approaching depends on your view of time.

The theme selected for the 9th Mary Mulvihill Award in 2025 was #Life.

Due to the quality of the entries, for the first time ever, the judges selected two winners. Simran Khatri of
@ucddublin.bsky.social for her excellent essay.

Ayomide Ajani was selected as the winner of the 2023 Mary Mulvihill Award. The theme of the year's award was #energy.

The theme saw a wide range of entries from nine different colleges around Ireland.

The theme selected for the 2022 Mary Mulvihill Award was 'Water'.

The winning entry came from University College Dublin student Samantha Tobias.

The theme of the 2021 Mary Mulvihill Award reflected the mood of the planet at the time, 'Virus'.

DCU student Eoin Murphy was announced as the overall winner for his podcast: 'Black Market Oxygen- The Peru Project'.

The theme for the 2019 Mary Mulvihill Award was 'Science for the Love of it'. Laura Finnegan, a Trinity College Dublin PhD student was announced as the winner with her illustrated children's book profiling notable Irish scientists.

As we move past the Winter Solstice of 2025, it never fails to amaze how our ancestors measured the passing of time thousands of years ago.

Before what we now consider science had even been conceived, people had built a structure perfectly aligned with the movement of the sun, incredible.

The second Mary Mulvihill Award asked students from all over the island of Ireland to enter pieces on the theme, Science: Who's truth? Who's facts?

Katie Carbonara was awarded the 2018 prize for her outstanding essay.

This week marked Clean Air Week 2025 in Ireland.

Over the past few years more and more studies have been published highlighting the links between poor air quality and lung related illnesses.

In addition, it is believed that exposure to poor air increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.🧵1/6
