An artist who has been painting Newfoundland and Labrador for over 40 years.
"Winter Sunset" (2014) 20 X 16" acrylic on canvas by Reilly Fitzgerald.
February 13, 2026 at 7:28 PM
As a lifelong resident of Newfoundland and Labrador, I look out at each day facing me and I'm amazed that I live in such a wonderful place. There can't be a better place for an artist to live!
These are just some of my Winter inspired paintings based on scenes in walking distance of where I live!

Though this was published as part of the Newfoundland Business Network newsletter in 2023, I had completely forgotten about this. Found it a few days ago in a search for my art to share ... I felt honoured all over again as though it was the first time I saw it! (A benefit of a failing memory -lol)

"Getting Ready" (2014) 32 X 24" acrylic on canvas painting by Reilly Fitzgerald.
As Canadian art enthusiasts may see, I was strongly inspired by the work of Ted Harrison for this piece.

These are the other 4 pieces, in addition to today's "Trees by the Road" (2021) share, that were the direct result of my February 2021 night walk and became my "Clarenville at Night" series.

"Trees by the Road" (2021) ~14 X 10" acrylic-on-paper painting by Reilly Fitzgerald.
A "Clarenville at Night" painting, from a series inspired by a night stroll around my neighbourhood in February 2021. This particular night walk directly resulted in 5 pieces I call my "Clarenville at Night" series.

"Lost Pot" (2020)
13" X 9" acrylic on panel "wood grain" painting by Reilly Fitzgerald. Painted on 1/4 in. oak.
In "wood grain" paintings, the grain of the wood determines the background & the placement of images; sections of the image have the wood itself add to the colour pallet of the piece.

"Blanketed” (2020) 12" X 36" acrylic on canvas painting by Reilly Fitzgerald.

"Morning Light on a Frozen Pond" (2023) 20 X 16 acrylic on canvas painting by Reilly Fitzgerald.
A scene of Denny's Pond as seen through the trees on a frosty winter morning which I painted with Tom Thompson first in my mind. I recently discovered Thompson's "Pine Trees at Sunset" and it scared me!

This make by confusing ... Or make perfect sense. (lol)
Nice. All I have are my paintings of a Labrador on a Newfoundland wharf, a Newfoundland in a Labrador Gale, and a Labrador and Newfoundland in Newfoundland & Labrador. (lol)

You left out "THE".
How anyone of faith can put this man on a symbolic pedestal of faith and "goodness" is beyond my understanding.

Arguing over skin colour is like arguing over eye colour, arm length, ear shapes, knee knobs, ...
Why will it take an invasion of space aliens for us to realize we are all human?!!

The paper pieces are more practical for storage compared to canvases. I would paint with more canvases if we sold more. (lol)

I use heavy paper (140lb or heavier) & tape it down to a board. My only request for Christmas this year was a new wooden board large enough to fit an 18" X 24" sheet.
I used my previous board to patch a hole in the back porch floor.(lol)
This shows my new board and below is a small piece taped down.

Even in the darkest, coldest days, there is joy to be found.

"Building a Snowman in Green's Harbour" (2023) 21" X 29" acrylic on paper painting by Reilly Fitzgerald.

As artists it is our job and nature to remind people of this and try to bring a little joy and light to our often dark cold world.

Lovely urban Canadian painting!
Someday my work will be recognized as original Canadian art worth regularly sharing as well.
I also suggest Canadian artists Clifford George, Tracy Root, Kaeleigh Fitzgerald, Melissa Tremblett, Robert McAffee, Ed Roche, Don Bruner.
