The US reverence for its founding fathers as somehow geniuses seems a little misplaced, maybe lost, too early to tell.
The Founders did, in fact, worry about what would happen if an unvirtuous people failed the trust placed in the public by the Constitution. Washington, Adams, Madison...all worried about.
