I see this so often in my kids when they're dysregulated about a small injury. The meltdown is more about being scared by what happened.

I think it's true also about general life stressors. Yeah, they're challenging, but the fear is what makes it unbearable, not the experience.

The holiday season tends to feel a bit chaotic with all the activities, events, and traveling. Coupled with shorter days and an uptick in seasonal affective issues, this can be a very challenging time of year even for the healthiest of individuals.

May I offer a 3rd option? "It is better to partner with grief than to treat it as an adversary."

Grief can be a companion that helps us digest and heal from the significance of a loss - if we allow it to. A collaborative relationship renders conquering and deception unnecessary.
