Changed my thermostat today and realized the old Honeywell unit has Mercury in it. Luckily I have a safe place to dispose of it at work - but imagine how much of that shit ended up in landfills over the years. Picturing the scale of hazardous waste discarded around us is fuckin bleak

It's stupid that the government will subsidize buying an electric car up to like $10k but they won't subsidize something like an annual transit pass which is substantially less.

My union has requested members to suggest anything we may want to negotiate for on our next collective agreement. Is there anything beyond the obvious I can bring up here?

If I could pass one law, I'd make it illegal to support the Boston Bruins in Montreal and force the cops to waste all their resources raiding the homes of known Boston fans, confiscating their Bruins merch, etc

I'm envious that American socialists are organized enough to have something like DSA. I totally understand joining on a purely tactical level as a Marxist. Here in Canada we have no such option. What use is a communist party if it's full of sex pests?

I can't emphasize enough how silly I feel looking back on my time as a new communist a few years ago. Just arguing constantly with whoever would engage. I think I've gotten a lot better at holding my tongue and choosing when and how to talk politics.

I don't see how CPUSA's leadership is any different from a corporate board of executives. Whenever higher ups say awful stuff, the members email national (i.e. complain to HR/corporate) but nothing ever happens. The people who call out abuse are expelled and slandered regularly

Air Miles used to be widely accepted at stores across Canada. Slowly, retailers dropped it in favour of their own loyalty programs which are all complete dogshit and give you like $10 for every $1000 you spend
