Bad art is a necessary step to making good art, and all artists were bad until they weren't. Very few come out of the womb with a Cintiq stylus in their hand.

Please don't ever stop creating things.
I consider Donkey Kong Bananza to basically be Mario Odyssey 2.

It's definitely different, but they share so much DNA that it feels like an excellent sequel to me.

Looking forward to Mario Odyssey 3: Ice Climbers

With the price of PC components exploding, I hope a side effect is greater interest in SBC game handhelds companies like Anbernic make

Pico-8 works great, and games like Iconoclasts and Undertale can run on most firmwares that Portmaster supports

Be cool to see new games come out for them

Game idea:

Armored Crossing

Instead of paying off your mortgage, you're working to pay off increasingly expensive upgrades to your mech

Also you plant flowers and go fishing.

My top 3 2025 games for Nintendo Switch 2 (in no specific order):

- Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Donkey Kong Bananza
- Cyberpunk 2077

These were all a blast, and I recommend them if you're considering it.

Game idea:

You investigate files on a big bulletin board and make connections using twine. When you make a correct deduction, new evidence appears on the board.

The game is called Pepe Silvia.

I am disappointed by the use of genAI by a studio who has historically made things I really like.

Their latest trailer had me hyped, and this AI conversation really took the wind out of its sails.

Hot take:

There aren't enough good indie 3D platformers on Steam/itch

Larger games like BotW and TotK look fantastic on Switch 2's giant screen, but I do miss 3DS XL-sized handhelds.

Something like the AYN Thor or Retroid Pocket Flip 2

Proton is already witchcraft to me, so the Steam Frame running desktop games on an ARM chip is another layer deep of mindblowing.

If this is something like Proton where I could run other apps through it, it will be a game changer for mobile.

Cooking Mama but with realistic groceries

You start a recipe but realize you forgot to pick up a key ingredient so you go searching through the fridge to try and make it work

Pokemon name rater, but he just tells you all your Pokemon names are great so you can't change them for the rest of the game

Game idea:

Basically cooking mama, but grilling. Cook burgers, steaks, chicken, veggies, etc. Make marinades. Grill tomatillos and blend into a salsa verde.

There are so many talented indie animators with stuff on Youtube.

Even the rougher stuff, I'm impressed by the work people have put in. You can really feel the effort and vision.

I really hope Yooka Replaylee is good, and if it is, that it sells well enough to make more.

You can NEVER have too many good 3D platformers.

Silksong, after 9 months of game releases all hoping to become game of the year:

Game difficulty is a nuanced subject, but I tend to side more with the pro-artist side of things.

With that said, the first major patch for Silksong is decreasing early game difficulty and I support that, too, for the same reasons.

Silksong has been so fantastic.

It scratches that Hollow Knight itch in a way that sequels don't often do for me. It retains everything - EVERYTHING - I loved, while feeling different enough to have its own identity.

With legal challenges to this law pending, we cannot justify building the expensive required infrastructure.

For now, we have made the difficult decision to block access in Mississippi.

To learn more, read our blog post:
Our Response to Mississippi’s Age Assurance Law - Bluesky
A new Mississippi law requires us to block full access to Bluesky unless all users complete age checks. We have concerns about this law’s implementation.

Any plans to release collections as ebooks? I'd love to get digital versions of the older anthology books like Camp Foxtrot and Foxtrotius Maximus
