To me, today isn't Black Friday, it's Second Thanksgiving! All the yummies without the work.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday, so today will be spent primarily baking pies and bread. My house is going to smell great! #Thanksgiving

My brain decided I needed a cozy Christmas project, so I'll be working on a new mousey Christmas picture book manuscript over the holidays! #PictureBookAuthor

I have two projects that I'm focusing on right now. Illustrations for a picture book featuring a snowman, and the third draft of a historical novel in verse. How about you? #WritingCommunity #KidLit

Forest and trees are part of a consistent thread that has woven its way through the story of my life, and therefore into my writing. Other threads that I’ve noticed often are bodies of water and family, especially sibling relationships. What are those threads for you? #WritingCommunity

Even before they are reading on their own, the picture books and chapter books we read with our children can expose them to a rich and wonderful world of words. This is why I like to use some "big" words in my picture books!

Rhyme writers, remember: Language has a natural rhythm. It’s important to make sure that rhythm works *with* a story’s meter, not against it. #WriteTip #WritingInRhyme

I don't like the saying "all reading is good reading" because it's not true. It matters what you feed your brain, whether it's through reading or other forms of media. And this is especially true for kids. #kidlit

My son asked me if I have a nemesis among my fellow kidlit authors, and the answer is no because we're just a big group of creatives sincerely cheering each other on. #KidlitAuthors

I put a whole big stack of children's poetry books on hold at my library, and all of them were ready for me within a day or two. So, I thought I'd take this moment to remind you that you don't have to wait until National Poetry Month to read poetry with kids.

Currently tweaking a newish daily work schedule in which I focus on writing in the morning and illustrating in the afternoon, with an hour or so somewhere in there for the businessy stuff. It's been two days and it's going great! 😆

For #Inktober2025 I'm doing a series of miniature block prints that tell a story. Each tiny print is 1 x 1.5 inches Here's what I have so far.

I wrote three new poems in my novel in verse WIP yesterday, and today I'm ignoring the voice in my head saying, "You made such progress yesterday. Take today off!"

Write what you want to write. You can figure out the rest later.

A poetry book is like the food table at a party. Stand and feast if you like, or taste a bit here and there, savoring, letting the flavors linger. Here are a couple favorites (for feasting or snacking).

It's been a challenging week, and I can't decide if I should spend today recovering or playing catch-up. Maybe half and half?

I'm rarely around for #kidlitchat live because we have grandkids at the house on Tuesday nights. But I write MG because MG books are always at the top of my favorites lists. And I write rhyming PBs because they are my favorite thing to read aloud. I guess that part of me has never grown up!
TOPIC: Why do you create/read the stories you create/read? Like… if you write MG, what makes THAT the age range you focus on? Yes, we all do lots of stuff, but if you gravitate towards one thing... why? #kidlitchat

Plan for the day:
1. Work on my verse novel revision
2. Finish my picture book dummy
3. Try not to add too many more books to my enormous library holds list

My 3yo grandson is really excited about playing in the snow this year, and now I'm like, "Why isn't it December yet?"

Much of my writing time is actually spent meandering around the garden while drafting rhyming lines in my head.
