I decided to watch (rewatch) all the @criterion.bsky.social titles in my collection, starting with the 4K releases, Blu-ray, and DVD (by spine order).

This is a Criterion thread.
DRIVE (2011), Nicolas Winding Refn took the simplest of plots, added stunning cinematography, violence, a minimalistic leading man, the perfect score and soundtrack.

The outcome, a layered neo-noir movie for the ages, endlessly rewatchable from beginning to end.

THE MASK (1994), back when it was released all I saw was looney tunes comedy and beautiful colors.

Now I see repress anger (a lot of it) sugar coated with looney tunes comedy and you know what? is very very entertaining.

The 4K looks superb, top 10 of the year type of transfer.

THE DESCENT (2005), claustrophobic, gory and violent with a dark psychological underline.

It could be the most balanced horror movie of the 21st century, this is Neil Marshall’s best work.

The 4K UltraHD looks stunning, so good, makes the movie better, id that’s even possible.

Another entry in the Memo Del Toro Criterion Collection, needless to say, stunning packaging!

Hopefully we will get all his filmography in the Collection (that would be something).

BUGONIA (2025), Yorgos Lanthimos dark comedy, comes with a relevant social message, great build-up and a masterful ending.

Stone and Plemons are absolutely amazing, is my favorite Lanthimos movie, how he balance a very depressing story with comedy and tension is genius.

If you are on the fence about getting the X TRILOGY from A24, I highly recommend getting it, having it on hand and watching X on 4K UltraHD, is a gorgeous set!

Another pic to compare to the rest of my A24 collection.

After my rewatch of A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, here my definitive ranking of DAVID CRONENBERG filmography (From top to bottom).

Note: ‘Fast Company’ not in the picture, for me is dead last, not a bad movie, but I have no desire to watch it again, reason why I don’t own it.

THE APOCALYPSE TRILOGY in 4K UltraHD

No director does it like John Carpenter.

IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994), I miss John Carpenter the director, his ability to create an entertaining narrative in uncomfortable nightmare scenarios is being copied but never matched.

The 4K restoration looks impressive and the next extras celebrate the legacy of the movie.

JACOB’S LADDER (1990), the more I watch it, the more profound it feels, its meaning sinks down into my soul.

The 4K UltraHD is stunning, you can see and hear the upgrade in quality (from the bluray), the new documentary is informative and entertaining.

Bravo, Lionsgate limited!

With the arrival of EDDINGTON 4K UltraHD from A24, the ARI ASTER filmography is complete!

I find all his movies interesting, engaging and original, he certainly knows how to create an atmosphere.

My favorite is MIDSOMMAR (directors cut) the more I watch it, the more I love it.
October 10, 2025 at 4:39 PM
TRON: ARES (2025), Nostalgia induce, a bombardment of neon red & chrome black with a NIN soundtrack for the ages!

Simplistic story, but the spectacle is marvelous, Leto is phenomenal, it feels more like a sequel to TRON than Legacy.

Feliz cumpleaños, GUILLERMO DEL TORO, un maestro!

Criterion & Memo are a fairy tale partnership, hopefully “live happily ever after”.

The (unofficial) ‘DREAM TRILOGY’ my favorite horror trilogy, is impossible for me to watch DREAM WARRIORS without following it up with DREAM MASTER and DREAM CHILD.

They are so good and the new 4K transfers made them even better!

I don’t know about the digital version, but to no one’s surprise, the 4K UltraHD of F1 looks STUNNING!

Even the freaking menu looks like a painting and the sound “mama mia”!
October 4, 2025 at 1:52 PM
JOSEPH KOSINSKI (for me) came outta nowhere and now is one of my favorite directors.

Most of his movies are very entertaining, visually stunning and his choices for original music are spot on.

Oblivion, Maverick, Legacy and F1 are such crowd pleasers and endlessly rewatchable.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET COLLECTION 4K UltraHD.

Needs no introduction.

WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL (2013), nostalgic, entertaining and engaging, it captures a moment and vibe in time, a must watch during Halloween.

The commercials are as interesting as the broadcast itself, is the kind of movie I can watch on an endless loop.

ALIEN³ (Legacy Cut) (1992) - As someone who watched the movie endless times, I appreciate the changes in the 'Legacy Cut'.

I like the "new" opening, pace and all the newly fixed FX and CGI, this is the closes we are gonna get to FINCHER's vision until he (if ever) revised it.
