We purchased our home on a 15 year fixed mortgage when I was 30. The one thing that helps us do well in our retirement is not paying a monthly mortgage. A fifty year mortgage, where interest is front loaded resulting in slow accumulation of equity would have made retirement impossible.

As much as caving on the shutdown has angered Americans against the Senate Democrats, the actual CR that gives 8 Senate Republicans millions of our tax dollars, & @GOP refusal to do anything to prevent massive health insurance increases, Americans are even more angry with the GOP
