[Rogelio said his employers cut their rates by 30% to 40%. Other laborers told him they had endured similar treatment.]

If the point is really to get rid of undocumented workers, then every time a worker is deported their employer do a little time in jail.

If we confiscated all wealth over 999 million dollars from all the billionaires in the US, they would still be wildly wealthy and we would raise over 4.5 trillion dollars. Which is, coincidentally, the amount that Congressional Republicans recentlyvoted to increase the debt ceiling by.

I think the time frame for self-sufficient space colonies will be no less than centuries. I can't see it happening in just decades. All attempts to simulate self-supporting environments with humans in them here on this planet have failed to date.

Trump cut a deal to send prisoners to El Salvador and Trump could get this man back with one phone call. He just doesn't want to.

Clashes — both inside the courtroom and over the department’s refusal to comply with her demand for a road map to release Mr. Abrego Garcia — left open the possibility of a standoff in the future.

Gosh, Joe, I've been a "loser" too, if by that you mean broke, but there is no point at which I would have compromised my values and demonstrated for something I didn't believe in for a few hundred bucks.

The one graft that worked is coming along nicely. The two things I thought when I did this one were "these cuts/this fit is perfect" (I had just adjusted the graft cutter) and "both this graft and my tree seem to be starting to bud out. I bet this is just a little too late".

Do not torch Teslas. Ethics aside, they aren't selling, and every one that burns is another insurance claim paid out to Tesla.

I've seen it argued that we can trust Musk because as a billionaire he doesn't need the money. Guys, if it were about need he would have stopped at a few tens of millions. Acquiring billions is a sign of a hoarding disorder every bit as much as keeping decades of old magazines.

I have texts from senator Schumer's campaign committee but his staff can't be bothered to answer the phone. Even Neal Dunn's staff manage to answer the phone. I really believe Chuck wants nothing from rank and file Democrats except our money.

According to the Customs and Immigration website, permanent residents are protected by all laws of the United States, your state of residence and local jurisdictions.

That would include the constitution, where the first amendment calls out "persons", not "citizens".

Fuck you, Neil Gaiman! I used to read through the Sandman series every few years. There are *way* too many scenes that will not scan the same way for me now. I will never read them again. I will never support your work again.

Deep inside we all know that in America the quest to improve our lives has become a frantic chase to increase our wealth, at an ecological cost we work hard to ignore. I've improved my life by planting fruit trees and living in the same place long enough to harvest from them.

Free speech for them but not for any who disagree. Much like how the Governor here in Florida prohibits discussion of climate change in state documents and spent 100M of taxpayer money to advertiseagainst ballot initiatives he didn't like last year.
