The T1w/T2w is a measure of anatomical cortical hierarchy, and higher values indicate more sensory regions. The correlation is computed with Spearman’s correlation coefficient and p-values are corrected for spatial autocorrelation via permutations with the “vasa” method. Shaded areas represent the 95% prediction interval of the regression. Note the different scales of the y-axes. s.e.m. = standard error of the mean. The striking result is that while there is a strong correlation of timescales and hierarchy in Awake and NREM sleep, it is no longer there in REM sleep.
