The Beast in Me (2025) [Netflix]
I love Claire Danes & Matthew Rhys, and any scene they are in is compelling. This feels like top-class tv at times, but honestly cheap & predictable at others. Overall it was good, but regrettably not great.

🇺🇸 Wicked
2024 (Prime)
My default mode for musicals is dislike, w/ the possibility of being won over. I hate the unnatural feeling of suddenly singing & joyously dancing just for the sake of it. Wicked mostly felt weird, but ended strongly & had a few good songs.

🇺🇸 Hellstar Remina - Junji Ito
An evil sentient planet is attacking earth & huge mobs of people blame you! I didn’t love how the story progressed but it was an enjoyable ride. The bonus story 億万ぼっち was great.

🇺🇸 Train Dreams
2025 (Netflix)
A life story told in moments. Lonely & cruel but compelling & beautiful.

🇺🇸 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
2017 (Prime)
This was a great popcorn flick. Decent laughs, action & heart. Just as the credits started rolling & I was thinking “hey I’d watch another one of these”, the sequel popped up to watch next 👍

🇺🇸 A Merry Little Ex-Mas
2025 (Netflix)
It’s “made for TV”rom-com Christmas movie season on Netflix! Starring Alicia Silverstone? This started out pretty cringe but came around to be a decent movie for what it is.

Skate. (PS5)
⏱️ 87h
Despite the laundry list of complaints you can make, I haven’t spent any real money & I’ve gotten a lot of enjoyment from this game. Still needs proper online multiplayer, player-made challenges & parks, etc.
⭐️ Good (7/10)

🇺🇸 The Woman in Cabin 10
2025 (Netflix)
Starts off compelling, like an Agatha Christie novel, but just as you start guessing whodunnit they drop the whole explanation on your plate, and it all unravels into something kind of ridiculous. I liked Keira Knightley though.

🇺🇸 Robot Dreams
2023 (U-NEXT)
A Spanish-French animation with no dialog. Really charming movie. Lovely art style. You start off with a “this is cute and all but what exactly am I watching here?” feeling, but it really gets you in the end.

The Penguin (2024) [U-NEXT]
Colin Farrell’s great & Cristin Milioti is good. Overall it felt a little bloated & slow. Mob movie tropes & unbelievable getaways. Penguin’s a nice guy but don’t forget to sprinkle in him being a total psychopath. I didn’t love it.

It took a few hours to get a handle on things but this game is fun as hell. Every outpost is a puzzle to unlock with a thousand different solutions (in hard mode most of those solutions result in death).
Great writing. I love Dani singing along to the radio so much.

Far Cry 6 (2021) [PS5]
Fun so far! The prologue pulls you in immediately, feeling like a vision of a suddenly not so unlikely American future, with soldiers brutally taking over neighborhoods, thrusting you into a band of guerillas with a boatload of motivation to fight back.

Hogwarts Legacy (PS5)
⏱️ 79h
Decent story & combat (but killing hundreds feels weird). The world is designed beautifully, but also feels empty & the activities rote. The game needs more consequences, like morality, friendship & house points systems.

Nobody Wants This S1 (2024)
I saw S2 came out, which reminded that I never posted about watching S1 a few months ago. Honestly it was very vanilla & forgettable. I have no plans to watch S2.

🇺🇸 Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride
2005 (Netflix)
Hard not to compare this to Nightmare before Christmas, because they hit the same notes: visually delightful, musically hit & miss & a meandering story. I kinda like the idea of these movies more than watching them

🇺🇸 We Live in Time
2024 (U-NEXT)
Not a big Andrew Garfield or Florence Pugh fan. A story about love & loss told at different times in a couples’ relationship. I didn’t find it very interesting or original for most of the movie but I felt some feels towards the end.

🇺🇸 Licorice Pizza

2021 (U-NEXT)
Tries for Tarantino-like spontaneity, but ends up as a jumble with weird, unbelievable cameo characters and no real plot?
