What happens when you get the hepatitis C cured ? Do you feel entitled to eat more and drink more alcohol ? I always had that feeling with my patients.

A recent study confirms this: people tend to become more overweight and drink more alcohol. Clinicians should warn about it.

When mentoring your first post-doc, a practical advice is to assign 2 projects. One safer that will generate a paper in a 1-2 years max. The second one more ambitious and riskier.

This way you will prevent the anxiety that we all had as a post doc the 2nd year.

Did you know that sweet-liking is associated with addictions such alcohol use disorder and is genetically driven?

In fact, glucose supplementation can mitigate withdrawal symptoms and sweet-liking is associated with better response to naltrexone.

Interesting.

I always tell my patients with recompensated cirrhosis following a long period of abstinence:

“Congrats for this achievement. The liver is giving you a second chance. Stay vigilant. If your brain craves again for alcohol, don’t feel ashamed and contact me”

Is bariatric surgery safe and effective in patients with compensated cirrhosis ?

If they have portal hypertension & varices, I don't think so. But a recent study in @NatureMedicine shows that it prevents decompensation.

We tend to think that all decompensated cirrhosis are the same. During the 12 years that I practiced in the USA, I learnt that MASLD cirrhosis is different.

See below the 10 more common specific medical issues of MASLD CIRRHOSIS that I found:

Happy to join Bluesky.

My main priority will be to contribute building a community of patient-oriented liver lovers.

I also want to post about humanism, creativity, photos….

I was playing this morning to create a logo for the liver community.

Cheers to all.
