This is important: people want quick solutions but a fundamental rethinking of democracy and "what to do" to strengthen it and its appeal in the face of authoritarian threats is needed. That is what I am working on now.
3. I need some time and distance to assess both my own ideas and those from others. At the moment, I don’t so much think I underestimate the strength of the far right but rather significantly overestimated the strength of liberal democracy.

The Trump ordeal has made one thing clear.
Too many of our checks and balances rely on norms, traditions and the honor code.
It works when those elected into power are people of honor and integrity who respect our norms and traditions.
