Realizing that diversification is a fine strategy for investing my money, but it’s a god-awful strategy for investing my time.

Gotta cut mercilessly.

I'm a web dev turned app dev.

6 months into building my startup, Wednesday Waffles, I'm here to concede that mobile app dev is WAY harder.

🧵 6 reasons why:

Want to make Tuesdays a "hack day" where I sprint to push out a feature for my app, Wednesday Waffles, and document the process to share online as a short-form vid.

Take #1:
System Design: Instagram Live Video Reactions
3am coding sessions, how I've missed you.Yesterday, I built instagram-style live video reactions into my app, @WednesdayWafflesApp and here I describe how I...

Taking another stab at making short-form video. Here's what I'm doing differently:

- Batch work (script daily, record & edit once weekly).

- Make what I’d binge (No trend-hopping or click-baiting)

- Expect nothing, enjoy everything (do it because it makes me feel like me).

It’s “Prune June”:

Cutting out podcasts, YouTube, and music for the month. Only audiobooks allowed.

Hoping to feel my mood and focus improve. Will report back.

Ball analogies for startups was something I never knew I needed.

Nice, this feature only took me 5x the time I expected it to 😩

In case you were wondering, the app is called "QuickGift" and now it lets Shopify merchants email gift receipts to their customers.

Time to hand it off to my business partner (i.e. my girlfriend) to price it!

Surprise, surprise. I didn’t budget for half the things I had to do, and the things I did budget for took twice the time.

Every engineer steps on that rake at least twice a week.
I built a Shopify app that makes enough to cover date night—not much else.

Recently, a big company reached with a feature request.

If I land them and other large merchants with a premium tier, this app could cover my rent and more.

Today, I’m going to build that feature.

Moving is such a nightmare, I don’t recommend it.

Wherever you are right now, stay there.

I quit my job as a staff-level engineer at Boston Dynamics to go ham on a startup with friends.

I moved back to Canada. My girlfriend moved back to LA.

I’ve got about five months to make enough money—and find a visa—to get back to her.

Clock’s ticking. Let the games begin 🤝

I’m on a quest to develop “good taste” and I’m making no progress.

The question just I can’t answer is:

How can art be “good” if it’s not popular? How can popular art not be “good”?

Think:
- Movies
- Books
- Paintings
- Fashion
- Hair Styles
- Architecture

I’ve got nothing…

Hot take:

The best speech about critics is NOT Teddy Roosevelt's "Man in the Arena".

It's actually Anton Ego's review of "Gusteau's" at the end of Ratatouille.

When I joined Boston Dynamics 3 years ago, it felt like we were the only player in the "Humanoid" game.

Today we have at least 8 peers making great progress:

Apptronik, Agility, Figure, Tesla, Fourier, Unitree, 1X, Sanctuary.

Bet on this space!

How will AI agents work?

In the 2000s, every company needed a Graphical User Interface (GUI) — a website or app that humans can interface with.

In the 2030s, every company will need a Conversational Agent Interface (CAI) — an AI agent that other AI agents can interface with.
