The response to this article today from professional colleagues and the gaming community has really been heartwarming and humbling. I really do appreciate people engaging with this research, and taking the time to let me know (esp. if - like me - they played Twilight 2000 'back in the day').
Hurrah! My article on the Twilight 2000 RPG in the Journal of American Studies is now open access (OA), so anyone who wants to can have a read. OA is important to me, as I want my work on RPG history to go beyond the academy and reach the gaming public.

Yep, studios were broken by internet nitpickers and think normal audiences would not be perfectly happy to see Different Handsome Brit walk in and say “Bond, James Bond” whilst holding onto the delusion that a Kangaroo is a Martini.

one thing that always stands out about this art to me as well is the depiction of sin eaters as beings *with* a being clearly visible inside their mouths. like it's taking pains to highlight the fact that sin eaters are largely born of former people

BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

In principle, I understand that Monopoly isn't special, and that "tabletop game that's widely played even though it's generally agreed it fucking sucks" is a phenomenon found in many cultures, but I wouldn't intuitively have predicted in just how much of the world that position is filled by mahjong.
