My Grandfather likely came to America illegally. He was a Brit who started working in Canada as they were part of the Commonwealth. He crossed into the US in the days when that was easy. Once he was in the US, he needed to find a way to remain. He married my Appalachian Grandmother when she was 16.

I hear what you guys are saying about the Oscars, and how they're a celebration of life, and the show must go on, blah-blah-blah, so-on-and-so-forth. It all makes a degree of sense, but to me it still feels like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Or in this case, wearing fancy clothes while LA burns.
