Looking at the current shenanigans over the pond, it’s amazing to me that the USA has ever had a functional democracy .

EITHER force employers to pay actual living wages

It strikes me that Zelenskyy has rather more wiggle room than many people assume. With gasoline rationing already in parts of Russia, and other shortages looming there, he can, with continued Western support, make life pretty unpleasant for Russia and Butcher Putin.
