My previous post on two ideas of mine for books may share especially some inspiration streams with #AttheBottomoftheGarden. And I keep returning to the #IrvingFeldman book Works And Days And Other Poems; Japanese Inn by Oliver Statler; and Spindrift From A House By The Sea by John J. Rowlands.

Two long-held ideas for serious, deeply-probing books to which I keep returning: The first and older is BACKYARDS, simply, literally; the second, a (somewhat) Proustian remembrance of PLACES AND SCENES past--where I have lived and which I have loved--in Hawai'i, in Monterey--not only, but mostly.

An opportunity to acknowledge my gratitude to longtime Manhattan attorney and NY State Democratic Party operative #HerbertP.Rickman. He gave this then-young political science student a VIP job at the 1964 Atlantic City Democratic National Convention...were he mourned JFK, met LBJ....and yes, #RFK!

I've restructured my Bluesky feeds to more fully cover my range of interests...e.g., #EdRicketts, #Books, #Philosophy, #BobDylan, etc. See you in the feedlot (?).

Monterey Peninsula locations: Tte National Steinbeck Center in Salinas; Cannery Row (& places there like Doc Ricketts's Pacific Biological Laboratories & the Vacant Lot); on 4th Street Between Lighthouse & Laurel Avenues in PG, former Canary Cottage, where Ricketts & neighbor Joseph Campbell lived.

The Thunderbird Bookshop at The Barnyard Shopping Center in Carmel, CA...kind of at the mouth of Carmel Valley...a favorite hangout 25 years (was it that long?) ago. I loved that place! Others? Harrison Memorial Library in downtown Carmel, Pacific Grove Public Library, & Monterey Public Library!

Spindrift: From a House By the Sea (John J. Rowlands)...is an impactful book for me...as is Works and Days and Other Poems by Irving Feldman. Two islands in the stream for this reader...with apologies to Ernest Hemingway, naturally.

BOB DYLAN MATTERS. More than ever.....

Oh, yes...1966. I worked for Bobby Kennedy's Senate campaign in New York. The real RFK! The KINDEST political figure in our history (any argument here?). And...the GREATEST political figure of my lifetime, period full stop. Nuff said for now.

Studied Political Science & Philosophy at Syracuse University; took Constitutional Law with Michael O. Sawyer, Philosophy with Fernando Molina...& had Allen Ginsberg guest-teach an English class! Those were the days, nothing like what's going on now...

Really GREAT to have found a place with so many others who think like me! And what's that? Check out the writings of Edward F. Ricketts, great friend of John Steinbeck's and the main inspiration for Doc in Cannery Row, for some idea....

I think I really like this site. Thank you, Rachel Maddow! And thanks for the First 100 Days coverage of this awful catastrophe.
