I'm not sure if this is the "best" resume template, but it's helped me place almost 1k tech workers since 2014.

Simple, boring format.

Easy to skim, scan, and read. No bells and whistles.

That's all you need.

Most people don’t realize this:

Interviewing for the job is a completely different skill than doing the actual job.

People think just because they’re good at their job they can interview well.

Then wonder why they keep getting rejected time and time again.

One of the most underrated pieces of interviewing advice:

Talking out loud during technical interviews.

Interviewers want to see how you think:
• How you break down the problem
• How you weigh tradeoffs
• How you adjust when constraints change

The employment landscape is absolutely brutal right now.

If you work in tech, at the bare minimum you should:

• Have your resume updated
• Have your LinkedIn updated
• Reach out to some previous coworkers to network

The RCMP warns North Korean IT workers are posing as freelancers to infiltrate companies.

Hiring them is illegal and risks malware, data theft, and funding weapons programs.

Watch for crypto payments, fake IDs, deepfakes, and too-good-to-be-true rates. Vet freelancers carefully.

5 rules for entry-level professionals:
1. Make your boss look good
2. Write and speak clearly
3. Build a reputation for reliability
4. Chase results, not credit
5. Network quietly inside and outside your company

Do these and you won’t stay entry-level for long.

The best advice I got was a simple question: Why you?

Why should they hire you over the next resume?
Why should they promote you over the person beside you?
Why should they fight to keep you?

If you can’t answer that confidently, it’s time for a hard look in the mirror.

The worst time to network?
When you’re desperate for a job.

The best time?
A long, long time go.

Build relationships before you need them.

So when the time comes the foundation is already built.

This way you’re not spamming people for referrals out of thin air.
