Excited to work with @agu.org, @ametsoc.org, @costasamaras.com (and our colleagues not on Bluesky) to develop this special collection, which aims to advance climate assessments within the US at all scales.
📢 Submissions are now open for the U.S. Climate Collection, a joint @theAGU + @ametsoc initiative.

This special collection will publish U.S.-focused climate assessment science that’s free to read, ensuring rigorous, accessible science informs decisions for years to come.

#Erin is a textbook case of the explosive intensification rates that pose an increasing problem as the planet's oceans and atmosphere heat up.

Saving grace this time: Erin is on track to avoid making landfall anywhere. Next time: who knows?

Hurricane Erin went from Category 1 to Category 4 in 15 hours Y'all. That's well beyond our definition of rapid intensification. My update on the hurricane. It may not be done strengthening yet. Where is it going and how strong will it get?

Turns out, unsurprisingly, that American fascism is bad for tourism and U.S.-based conferences. (You'd have to be an idiot to organize an international gathering inside the U.S. at this point.)

I had to delete and repost a couple of prior posts because I realized that Bluesky doesn't recognize a hashtag if a left paren immediately precedes the has mark. (#SMB2025) doesn't work but ( #SMB2025 ) does.

(3) Mark Lewis ( #SMB2025 ). Wolves would diversify their hunting locations, despite moving into the unknown, to avoid hunting hyper-vigilant prey in recently hunted areas. An exploration of predator and prey memory plus prey fear response.

(2) Mark Lewis ( #SMB2025 ). The step length benefit occurred when prey presence was low, but not when prey were plentiful. Although prey were more plentiful in buffer regions between wolf packs, the penalty of adversarial encounters created buffer zone avoidance.

In the 2nd #SMB2025 plenary, Marisa Eisenberg explored modeling for public health, decisions despite antiquated data systems and imperfect data. She moved from multiple mechanistic models to using such in ensembles to train AI for predictions. She noted identifiability matters for inference.

(1) In yesterday's opening plenary at #SMB2025, Mark Lewis explored three aspects of wolf movements and hunting using the Fokker-Plank equation. Step length and step direction were taken to be independent. Larger step lengths along roads overrode higher likelihood of being killed
