Last week, members took a trip to the Prospect Park Zoo. They had an amazing time connecting with nature and animals, and enjoyed spending time together outside! ☀️

Yesterday, we were joined by the BK Public Library’ for a Budgeting Workshop! Librarian Danielle Winter gave an informative presentation about how budgeting can be a tool of power and knowledge, as gaining skills to increase control and security in one’s life is important in mental health recovery.

Yesterday, we were visited by Deryl J. Cochrane from the NYC Commission on Human Rights presenting a “Know Your Rights” workshop. Equipping New Yorkers with knowledge about their right to protection encourages self-advocacy and creates a stronger, more empowered community.

At Rainbow Heights Club, trips like riding the Staten Island Ferry allow for members to get outside together and take advantage of NYC's incredible free transportation services. Plus we thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride adventure!

As indicative of the passing of Local Law 35, it is clear that investing in community mental health services directly improves the lives of New Yorkers. At RHC, we support council members like Erik Bottcher who prioritize addressing the mental health needs that directly affect our NYC community!

Last week, the Center for Anti-Violence Education visited Rainbow Heights Club to lead an interactive workshop in "Empowering Self Defense". Instructors from CAE led RHC members through de-escalation techniques and self defense skills. It was an informative and deeply empowering experience!

We had an amazing time at our RHC Pride Party! We were joined by New York State Representative Jo Anne Simon and NYC Assemblymember Crystal Hudson who both spoke about the importance of organizations like Rainbow Heights Club in providing a supportive and inclusive community for all New Yorkers.

At RHC, we prioritize listening to each voice of our community through our weekly Community Meeting with staff and members. Community Meeting is a check-in with each other, serving as the participatory part of our drop-in center, ensuring that what we do at RHC reflects our community members!
