Guilt comes to mind. Raiden has in his past fallen victim to indecisive action. It had caused many to lose their lives and/or heavily change the course of those lives due to a moment of hesitation.

Also to add: the change can affect general thought process into something more primal and less constructed.
Raiden isn't the biggest fan of losing control of the self. Maintaining it is a core principal ingrained into him.

But, to be up front, my involvement with XIV has kind of begun to fade. I'm confident when the next expansion comes out I'll be doing more XIV stuff.
